Lowering springs are a popular tuning option to improve both the appearance and handling of a vehicle. However, many drivers ask: can lowering springs be installed without using sports shock absorbers?
When are sports shock absorbers necessary?
With a lowering of up to 30 mm, it is usually possible to keep the factory shock absorbers. However, for any lowering greater than 30 mm, we strongly recommend installing sports shock absorbers. Why? Standard dampers are designed for the original ride height and suspension travel. Lowering the vehicle pushes them beyond their intended operating range, which can result in a harsher ride and increased wear.
